Meet Sherelle McKinley-Thomas, LPC

Sherelle McKinley-Thomas earned her Master's Degree in Community Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University in 2012.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Law and Legal Assistance from Morris Brown College in 2003.  Mrs. McKinley-Thomas is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-December 2016); and a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS-January 2021); and a National Certified Counselor (NCC-January 2013).

Mrs. McKinley-Thomas' career in mental health started in 2011 as an intern at Rainbow House, Inc. Children's Shelter and Advocacy Center.  She quickly became a well sought after counseling professional in the foster care system due to her compassion; ability to connect with teens; critical thinking skills; and her ability to bring families together by dealing with family trauma; generational habits; and homelessness.

In 2013, Mrs. McKinley-Thomas went on to become the Shelter Manager for Rainbow House, Inc. and in 2015 she became the Executive Director of Rainbow House, Inc.  Since 2013, Mrs. McKinley-Thomas has appeared on Public Affairs on Peach (CBS 46) to discuss ways to help prevent Sexual Exploitation of Children in Georgia; Clayton County News Daily Paper to discuss the physical and mental struggles of teens in foster care during the holidays; 11 Alive News to discuss teen homelessness and the need for Safe Place Programs in Georgia; and many panels to discuss parenting skills/techniques which affect the development of children and the family structure.

Due to her experience with providing counseling to a culturally diverse group of children, teens, students, parents, adults, professionals, and couples, in May 2021, Mrs. McKinley-Thomas left Rainbow House, Inc. to pursue her passion of working with families and teens and founded Divine Providence for Children, Inc. It is Mrs McKinley-Thomas' many years of experience working with families and children that has helped her to understand that no single approach is the right one for every individual.  She is always seeking training in different modalities, which have included EMDR; Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; and Solution Focused to address self-esteem, family conflict, peer issues, and foster care issues.

Ms. Mckinley-Thomas' mission is to help those who are hurt and lost find contentment and peace while navigating life’s obstacles.  She is dedicated and passionate about ensuring that you find purpose and peace by  providing you with the necessary tools you need to succeed in life.
