Trauma

Worry. Unhappiness. Hopelessness. Nightmares and sleep difficulty. Loss of pleasure in life. Emotional reactivity to painful reminders. Getting caught in a loop, reliving the same story time and time again. These are the effects of trauma.

Psychological trauma refers to any event that has impacted your life negatively and has caused emotional suffering. Common types of trauma include exposure to violence, sexual abuse, death, abandonment, and high stress environments. Trauma changes the way our brains react to stress and perceived threats, causing heightened anxiety, depression, and reactivity. The impact of trauma affects functioning and the quality of your experiences in all realms of life.
